$2900.00
Very elegant walnut card table with brass gallery and marquetry inlay. Round ochre marble top with two drawers and two pull-out tirelle slides. Perfect as a side table between a pair of chairs. Bouillotte (pronounced “boo YAHT”) was a card game (similar to today’s poker) that was wildly popular in France in the 18th century. The gallery allowed for a bouchon (pronounced “BOO shon”) felt top to be placed securely on top of the marble when the table was being used for the game. Without the bouchon, the marble-topped table worked perfectly as a side table, server, or candle stand. These tables were created in the Louis XVI neoclassical style and were raised on four tapering legs. These table legs terminate in sabots or applied decorative bronze shoe-mounts at the base of each leg, (unfortunately two of them are missing from this piece). There is a hairline crack in the marble top but otherwise the table is in very good condition for its age.
