Made of cast iron in the19th century by Peugeot Freres of France. Also marked "A1"
It's a simple device that no doubt will still wor,k although its value now is as a historical and decorative piece.
Complete apart from the front cover and the draw handle. Someone has done a nice job repainting it in a colour of its day, (unfortunately for us antique purists!),

Jean-Pierre and Jean Frederic Peugeot converted the family grain mill into steelworks in 1810. Thereafter, various branches of the family began to produce a wide range of products including tools, coffee mills, clocks and bicycles.
