This is truly a unique and beautiful piece or art. The carving is masterful and the feathered wings so very well executed. Its origin is unknown but its probably European and perhaps was an element of some devotional masterpiece. Cherubs are a member of the second order of angels, a rosy-cheeked and innocent child with wings. Popular in Renaissance art and often an assocciate of Cupid in matters of profane love.
Very nicely proportioned it measures 310 mm from wing tip to wing tip and the same from head to toe.
