A large slate Parisian mantel clock by A D Mougin. This imposing piece features an 8-day mechanical movement striking on a bell and is in good working order. The dial is gilded and has black numerals and is marked Furber & Son, Paris, who were the English Retailers of this piece. The case is made of slate and is extremely heavy. This ebonized clock has beautiful rounded lines and 4 gilded Corinthian columns. It is surmounted with an Acorn shaped finial and a lovely filagree crown. Circa 1895. Inside, the movement is marked with the serial number 146848 and is engraved with " A I " and a cartouche with "C Deux Medailles" and a Star. There is some restoration to a chip on the slate rim near the crown but this doesn't detract from its beauty. Measures 360 mm wide, 370 mm high and 18 mm deep.
