This original Galle Vase is in an oraganic green with layering of green/brown foliage.
Gallé cameo glass vases are celebrated examples of French Art Nouveau art, renowned for their intricate, nature-inspired designs created using a complex layering and etching technique. Master glassmaker Émile Gallé (1846-1904) was a pioneer of the Art Nouveau movement and the founder of the École de Nancy.
Gallé's vases are known for their organic forms and flowing lines, featuring motifs such as flowers (irises, clematis, fuchsia), leaves, trees, insects (dragonflies, mantises), and aquatic scenes. The designs often showcase a rich and subtle color palette, using techniques to create vibrant greens, deep violets, amber, and delicate "moonlight blue" (clair de lune).
Did you know that Gallé was a philosopher and writer as well as an artist. He created "vase poems," where vases would "speak" to the viewer, often incorporating symbolic meanings into the natural motifs.
