This is a great decorative object for the maritime enthusiast. Made of polystyrene, it is only the front half of the lifebuoy, possible seperated from the back in order to hang flat against a wall.
SS Monterey was launched in 1931 and served as an ocean liner for the Matson Line in the Pacific until the US Army purchased it in 1942. It served extensively as a troopship in World War 2 until 1946 when it was refitted and renamed. There was also a later Matson Line ship originally christened Free State Mariner with a later name change to Monterey, so its unclear which vessel this item is from.
