This iconic solid brass figurine is a classic piece of mid-century modernist design, an original creation by the celebrated Viennese artist Walter Bosse (1904–1979). Part of his renowned "Black Golden Line" series of animal miniatures, His designs became highly sought after in the 1950s for its playful aesthetic and sleek, minimalist form. The figurines were primarily produced in Austria in partnership with the Herta Baller company.
This particular model of a monkey is rare, as this shape is more commonly found in cat form. It is a highly collectible item for enthusiasts of vintage and Art Deco/modernist pieces
It features Bosse's signature "black golden" patina. A blackening chemical process is applied to the metal, then polished off the raised contours, leaving the recessed areas black and the high points with a shiny gold finish. This technique highlights the animal's silhouette.
