Pyrene commenced manufacturing in Middlesex, England in the 1920's and their biggest break came when the London General Omnibus Company (later to become London Transport) awarded Pyrene the contract for its fire extinguishers in 1924. In the 1930's they also won the contract to outfit the RAF’s new generation of light and heavy bombers such as the Vickers Wellington and Avro Lancaster. Pyrene’s small compact shape and high velocity spray made it an ideal portable extinguisher for vehicles and aircraft. The US Army also made use of Pyrene’s compact and versatile extinguishers, installing them throughout their WWII Willey jeeps and truck transports. The Pyrene Company eventually evolved into Chubb in the early 1970's.
